3rd wave ska

the third wave of ska was when it finally made it to america in the late 80s and early 90s. this combined ska with the fast tempoed american style punk. it became known as ska punk, or, when mixed with hard core punk, skacore. it started out with bands sutch as operation ivy (r.i.p. 1987-89) and the toasters. it was soon adopted by other bands sutch as less than jake and catch 22. ska had a very big effect on american punk in the 90s and it still does with primarily punk bands like rancid and nofx showing elements of ska.

jamaican ska band

ska in brittain

by the late 70s, allot of the more successful punk bands, such as the sex pistols, had broken up in england. this left room for another music genera to influence the alredy strong punk movement. this combined with the jamaican emegration, and the wantation for a music that people could dance to, ment that the ska invation was inevitable. bands such as the specias and madness became very popular with the rude boy/skinhead subculture in brittain.

jamaican ska

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska

Ska is a music genera that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to rock steady and reggae. Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the offbeat. Ska first became popular with the "rude boys", a sub culture that existed in Jamaica at the time. Rude boys wore three piece suits and ties to imitate gangsters in America . They were delinquents and known for getting into trouble with the law. this period is known as the first wave of ska, as it is when it first became popular. as Jamaica was still part of the British empire until 1962, and because of the poverty in Jamaica for people of African decent, there was allot of emigration to Brattain. This is how ska traveled to Britain
